Whether you’re a homeowner, business owner, or school administrator, we know you might have questions before booking your shredding service. Here are answers to the most common questions we get at Simply Shredding Hull.
Q: What can I shred with Simply Shredding Hull?
You can shred almost any paper-based document or file — from bank statements, utility bills, and contracts to HR files, archived business records, junk mail with personal details, and more. We also securely destroy IT equipment such as laptops, hard drives, phones, tablets, and USBs.
Q: Do I need to remove staples, paperclips, or folders?
A: No, there’s no need to remove staples. Our industrial shredders can handle these items without a problem, saving you time and hassle. However, we ask that you remove any paperclips or plastic wallets where possible, as we are unable to shred these items.
Q: Can I watch my documents being shredded?
Yes — for home users or individuals who want full peace of mind, we offer a "Shred While You Watch" service for just £15.50 per bag (appointment required). It’s a great way to see your documents being destroyed in real time.
Q: Do I get proof that my documents have been shredded?
Absolutely. Every shredding service includes a Certificate of Destruction, which serves as official proof that your documents or devices have been securely destroyed in line with GDPR and BSEN 15713 standards.
Q: How much does shredding cost?
For most customers, shredding is charged by the bag:

1 to 10 bags – £7.50 per bag
11 to 20 bags – £6.50 per bag
21 to 100 bags – £6.00 per bag
101+ bags – £4.00 per bag

Minimum of 3 bags for collection. No minimum if you drop off at our Hull site. (All prices exclude VAT.)
Q: How do your collection routes work in different areas?
We offer regular local collections:

Hull & Beverley: Collections available regularly — just call or email to book.
Scarborough: We collect on the 4th Tuesday of every month.
Scunthorpe: We collect on the 1st Tuesday of every month.

Pre-booking is essential to guarantee your slot.
Q: Do you offer secure disposal of IT equipment?
Yes, we securely destroy and recycle IT equipment including:

Laptops, tablets, phones, and desktop computers
Monitors and printers
Hard drives and CDs (bulk box price: £30)

Each item is handled in line with industry standards, and a Certificate of Destruction is provided.
Q: What happens to my shredded paper and equipment after disposal?
All shredded paper is 100% recycled into new paper products. We also recycle IT equipment where possible. Plus, every shredding service supports The Woodland Trust, and we’ve already helped plant over 2,000 oak trees. It’s a secure, eco-friendly solution that gives back.
